¡Regresamos!

For one full year, Ivo Martin Alcazar Balarezo lived in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky.

He ate traditional Southern cuisine.

More glorious fried chicken, all hail The Eagle.

He watched horses race.

He went to a baseball game.

And he dressed more appropriately than me.

He attended local events like a champ, including but not limited to…

…my sister’s awesome graduation…

       …my best friend’s awesome wedding…

…and a local church festival.

He lived in a land-locked apartment.

Pools need more waves, apparently.

He got to see the leaves begin to change.

And then he dealt with SNOW.

He watched American sports.

He watched South American sports…

…but he did it while drinking American beer and stuffing his dog into an adorable jersey (which, let’s face it, I’m also counting as American).

He put up with wildlife.

IMG_0016

I’m convinced a single deer would cause mass panic in Lima. They don’t even have squirrels.

He took his hot wife to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon!

Front row seats, he said, and I swooned.

Front row seats in a front row that only has two seats?? At Cirque du Soleil’s “Love”? Be still my heart.

He came to understand what I meant when I said, “Ft. Thomas is a dog town.”

IMG_0310The human-dog ratio might actually be 1:1 at this point.

He patiently provided emotional support as I decorated the ENTIRE house for Christmas…

…and then he stepped up and bartended dad’s office Christmas party.

He helped me buy ridiculously fun but unnecessary gadgets for Mr. Mike.

Capitalism at its absolute finest.

Shout out to Jill for a brilliant gift recommendation. We still don’t get the difference in soft boiled vs. poached eggs, but the Sous Vide can make 30 at once and they are delicious.

In summary, the US Government should just print Ivo up a damn passport right now.

He is arguably more American than me.

Finally though, 2015 is over. We got to know our wonderful neighbors better. We ate more soul food and drank more bourbon than we probably should have. We spent about every waking minute bonding with the Federle half of our multicultural family. It was awesome. On January 18, 2016, though, we finally answered the salty call of the Pacific ocean and boarded a plane for Lima, Peru.

This is it, folks! Year 2 of Lima, Peru has commenced!

LET’S DO IT!
